Historic Site Information

Los Luceros Historic Site is excited to welcome Anjel Ortiz of Peñasco, NM to their team. Mr. Ortiz has worked and volunteered with numerous agricultural entities such as Rio del Norte Coop, Meri-girl Gardens, Santa Cruz Farm and Greenhouse, and the La Plazita Institute. He studied Biology at the University of New Mexico in Taos, and continues to learn from Norteño farmers and his own agricultural experimentation. He is an acequia irrigation expert and will revitalize the over four miles of ditches on the property. Anjel is dedicated to establishing a natural and organic foodshed in northern New Mexico. He enjoys raising heritage crops such as blue corn and Chimayo chile. He is excited to get the fields of Los Luceros back into production to continue their centuries-long role of providing food to local communities.
